Dear Reader,

The pandemic has lead people down paths they never planned to follow. Many are unhappy paths, but this blog focuses on happy ones.  Since March, 2020, when social distancing was encouraged and many people stayed at home, the Grantham Garden Club Steering Committee worked tirelessly to keep their members connected as much as possible. There were presentations via Zoom, sharing pictures of flowers and gardens, and an on-line flower sale in place of the much anticipated public plant sale held at the Town Hall every May. Imagine the reaction when masked garden club volunteers showed up at peoples’ doors delivering beautiful flowers.

I have visited 40 GGC gardens and photographed thousands of flowers and plants. I have been blown away by what I’ve seen. These folks put in an amazing amount of time, care, and love into their gardens. Not surprising, their gardens are flourishing and are extraordinary. During the covid years, the gardens were seen by far fewer people. It was a privilege for me to enter into this safe and special world of flowers. Not only did the gardeners share their gardens, but they often share their stories which I am delighted to turn into posts.

Members of the garden club are always welcome to write their own stories to be added to this blog and many of them have. Thank you all for helping us stay connected

Each touching story is as beautiful as the pictures of the flowers. I really enjoyed this blog

Terri - for someone who always complained of having a"brown thumb," you have learned to make things bloom in other, magnificent ways. The photos are gorgeous and the stories, charming. Keep it up. I think that flowers are an important antidote to the "plague" that is infecting us. I can't wait to see the book. Cape Elizabeth, ME
