Intro to the Friday Flowers and Folklore Blog

The Coronavirus has lead people down paths they never planned to follow.  Many are unhappy paths, but this blog focuses only on uplifting ones.  Since March, when social distancing was encouraged and many of us stayed at home, the Grantham Garden Club Steering Committee worked tirelessly to keep their 80+ members connected as much as possible. There were Zoom Program presentations, sharing pictures of flowers and gardens, and an on-line flower sale in place of the much anticipated plant sale held at the Town Hall every May. Imagine the reaction when masked garden club volunteers showed up at peoples’ doors delivering beautiful flowers.
Many non-profits and for-profits are experiencing financial problems, and the GGC is no different. To raise needed funds for our 501C3 non-profit club, we plan to publish a photo book of flowers after the 2020 growing season. To that end, I have visited seventeen GGC gardens to capture them at their best.  I have been blown away by what I’ve seen.  These folks put in an amazing amount of time, care, and love into their gardens, and, not surprising, their gardens are flourishing and the flowers are extraordinary. Not only do they share their gardens, but they often share their stories. Because of the Pandemic, the gardens are seen by far fewer people.  It has been a blessing to enter into this safe and special world of flowers. This blog is my way of sharing it with you.
The Friday Flowers and Folklore  blog is also intended to keep us all connected and have people outside our little community connect with us.  If you're not local and you read any of these blogs and like them, please tell us where you live in the comment sections.
