May 13th turned out to be a beautiful sunny day for Sue Coakley's wildflower hunt in Heath Forest right here in Grantham!  Among the flowering plants the group found were wild oats, dwarf ginseng, red and painted trillium, hobble bush, American fly honeysuckle, Canada mayflowers, and white wood violets. Sue identified a number of soon-to-bloom flowers from their foliage including partridge and bunch berry, American mountain ash, twisted stalk, star flower, Indian cucumber, wild lettuce, crinkelroot and the cool sounding blue-beaded lily. Look for the Heath Forest trailhead at the Bogie Place cul-de-sac in Eastman. It's a wonderful place for exercise and fresh air with the cherry-on-top being the pretty wildflowers you'll find.
